Church Road could wrap up this cabernet-merlot-malbec as 'a Bordeaux blend'. Simple. But not. Because blending three varietals together is like playing a nine-note chord. It could end up a muddy cat-walking-on-a-piano mess. (We've tasted those. This is not one.) Far-flung wood, sunny berry fruit, fine ribbons of smoke and all the florals you'd normally find; every sensitive personality gets its moment. The tannins hold and showcase the individual as well as the unified whole. We know the dark, earthy floor is the floor. We know the lavender is the top-note. We instantly understand the shape, the profile, skeleton and skin of the thing. Well played.
