The estate, as we know it today, was established by the Irishman Pierre Mitchell, founder of the first Bordeaux glassworks, and his family in the 18th century. The castle was built in 1736.
Throughout the 19th century, under the direction of talented and passionate owners, such as Henry de Valade, adviser to the Imperial Court of Bordeaux, or Baron Henri de Koenigswater, the wines of Le Tertre would achieve worldwide fame. These wines are distinguished by their beautiful color and their fragrant sap.
